LG NAMED WORLD’S SEVENTH MOST INNOVATIVE COMPANY

A supply chain revolution at LG is paving the way for lower procurement costs and new innovative processes to create world-class products. LG Electronics has been named the 7th most innovative company in the world, jumping 20 places in just one year, according to BusinessWeek’s 50 Most Innovative Companies list for 2010. The ranking, based on both financial performance and the views of senior executives from around the world, reflects the success of recent LG innovations such as those in supply chain management, which are now saving approximately THB 64.68 billion (USD $2 billion) a year and reducing procurement costs by 21 per cent, while at the same time increasing supplier satisfaction. Mr. Hyun Woo (Howard) Lee, Managing Director, LG Electronics (Thailand) Co. Ltd. said that this supply chain revolution is evidence of LG’s strong commitment to innovation within every aspect of its business, both in processes and products. “LG’s vision is to be the world’s best at enriching lives through innovation and we do this by creating stylish, reliable products using the latest smart technology. It is also crucial that we apply this innovation internally, so taking a strategic approach to procurement is a great way to achieve this,” said Mr. Lee. LG’s innovation – in both its products and processes - has earned praise from other leading bodies. For process innovation, the Institute for Supply Management recognized LG with the 2010 R. Gene Richter Award for Leadership and Innovation in Supply Management. From a product perspective, LG’s mobile handsets were recently awarded nine accolades by the Red Dot Design and iF Awards, two of the most prestigious events in the world of product design. The Red Dot Design awards also recognized LG’s LX9500, the world’s first Full LED 3D TV.
