Hutchison Ports Thailand (HPT) has announced it is collaborating with the Faculty of International Maritime Studies at Kasetsart University Sriracha Campus to support student learning, provide internship opportunities, access port-related research and collaborate on course design with the aim of enhancing the students' overall understanding of the maritime sector.
The GO GREEN initiative is part of HPT's 'Our Sustainable Future' programme designed to address the risks posed by climate change and an evolving social and regulatory landscape. The programme is centred on three pillars: Our Environment, Our People and Our Business. The collaboration with Kasetsart University is part of HPT's academic collaboration programme, which aims to help universities provide the highest quality education and prepare students for possible employment in the port industry.
"Working with our communities to help build an understanding of what we do is important to Hutchison Ports Thailand and developing this collaboration with Kasetsart University's Faculty of International Maritime Studies at its Sriracha Campus is a win-win for both parties. We look forward to welcoming students and university staff to our terminal and to share our knowledge with them to help the university enhance its course content and to give the students an insight into our industry," said Stephen Ashworth, Managing Director of Thailand and South East Asia, Hutchison Ports.
"We are delighted to be able to collaborate with a global port operator like Hutchison Ports Thailand as it will give our students real-life experience to supplement their campus studies. As climate change prompts the industry to change how it operates, our students will be able to see first-hand how an industry leader initiates and implements these changes. It will be an invaluable experience for all of our students and staff," said Assistant Professor Dr. Sarinya Sanitwong Na Ayutthaya, Dean for Faculty of International Maritime Studies, Kasetsart University Sriracha Campus.
To kick off the collaboration, the GO GREEN Project 2022 between HPT and Kasetsart University, there will be two major activities:-
The collaboration with Kasetsart University is part of an overall programme of initiatives developed by Hutchison Ports' Group Sustainability Committee with the aim of sharing knowledge to ensure effective global implementation of best practice to support sustainable development.
