TCEB to organize TCEB Exhibition Forum 2011: Paves way for Thai business opportunities in ASEAN market

Bangkok--2Exhibition Jan--Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau

The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau has extended the project. "Bangkok...International Exhibition City ASEAN," by launching a new activity "TCEB Exhibition Forum 2011". The event aims to strengthen the international network of Thailand’s trade fair industry, and provide a platform for open exchange of knowledge and ideas in this industry under the theme "ASEAN Business Opportunity through the Vibrant Exhibition in Thailand". The forum will pave the way for Thailand to embrace the formation of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015, creating new market opportunities in the region for Thai businesses in the international trade fair sector. Mr. Akapol Sorasuchart, TCEB President said "Overall, Thailand’s international trade fair industry has retained its leadership in the region. In 2009 the international trade fair industry was valued at about 10,509 million baht with a total of 75 events, the highest number in the region." Apart from the number of exhibition events held, Thailand continues to maintain its leadership in the ASEAN region, as judged by four other key criteria: Annual Size, which amounted to 466,500m2; Average Size Per Fair, which amounted to 6,220 m2 per event; total revenues, which reached 4.5 billion Baht, or an average of 60 million Baht per event. Finally, in terms of the number of exhibition centres, Thailand has 8 world-class Exhibition Centres recognized by the international exhibition industry association UFI as complying with international standards. "It’s clear that the Thailand market still has high potential for the international exhibition industry in the ASEAN region. Moreover, Thailand could well take the leadership in Asia without too much difficulty, because although in terms of the number of international events,Thailand was ranked fourth in Asia, after Hong Kong, China and Japan, showing the high standards of Thailand’s international trade fair industry, and its potential for further growth. In addition, the forthcoming formation of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015 will open markets and create major new business opportunities for private operators, which will greatly boost Thailand’s economic growth. The exhibitions industry is therefore of major importance", said Mr Akapol. Ms Supawan Teerarat, TCEB International Exhibitions Director added, "in preparing for the opening up of the ASEAN market under the ASEAN Economic Community, we need to make sure the private sector is ready, vigilant and fully aware of the importance and potential of the ASEAN international trade fair market. TCEB is therefore organizing the TCEB Exhibition Forum 2011 for the first time under the theme ‘ASEAN Business Opportunity through the Vibrant Exhibition in Thailand’. “The TCEB Exhibition Forum 2011 aims to provide a platform for exchange of knowledge and ideas between business leaders, trade associations, private sector entrepreneurs and the public sector, including those interested in the industry’s overall economic significance and in raising public awareness and understanding of the importance of the international exhibitions industry to drive exports and the tourism sector. Moreover, the event will help promote Thailand’s image and reputation as a hub for international exhibitions in the ASEAN region. "TCEB expects approximately 350 industry representatives to continue to participate in the ‘Bangkok .... Exhibition City of ASEAN’ project, which TCEB started in 2008 under the theme ‘Thailand...One Place, Every Possibility’. The project reflects Bangkok’s possibilities and potential in all sectors, from tourism to business, and supports the city’s evolution as a world-class destination to host international exhibitions" concluded Ms Supawan.
