The Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Guangdong Province (DOFTEC) is collaborating with Worldex GEC China Co., Ltd and the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) to organise the second Guangdong Products Show from September 22 to 24, 2011, at Hall 3 of the Impact Exhibition Centre, Bangkok.
The exhibition aims at encouraging mutual trade and business relations between China and Thailand, and informing participants about the opportunities and how to engage in business with Guangdong.
According to Mr. Xu Jie, Vice President of the Guangdong Chamber of Commerce of Importers & Exporters, Guangdong has the largest and most advanced economy compared with other provinces of China. It is the centre of politics, economy, transport and culture in the country’s southern region, as well as being a manufacturing hub for various industries, which has earned it a reputation as ‘the factory of the world’.
Guangdong administration has implemented measures to promote its business and industrial sectors in order to attract investors. The measures include improving the infrastructure and necessary facilities, developing its logistic systems, facilitating customs procedures, and adjusting the regulations to attract investment.
“Thailand has been one of Guangdong’s most important trade partners for a long time,” Mr. Xu Jie said. “In 2010, their trade value totalled more than 500 billion baht, an increase of 32.3 per cent from the previous year and it represented 32.22 per cent of the trade value between China and Thailand. Guangdong also views Thailand as the gateway to the Asean markets.
“Guangdong Products Show 2011 is therefore an important opportunity for us to encourage mutual trade. The Thai business operators and the SMEs will also find it avaluable channel for access to Guangdong as a source of goods and a huge market with over 80 million consumers, especially when the Asean-China free trade agreement is now in place.”
Mr. Huang Jiancheng, Director of Worldex GEC China, said that Thailand was an essential part in China’s commercial relations with Asean countries, thanks to its strategic location and the Mekong river that connects countries in the region. Thailand is also the centre of economic, financial and air transport links in Southeast Asia and a perfect transfer hub for Guangdong products to Asean countries. China also has a policy to construct a high-speed railway from China through Laos, Thailand and Malaysia to Singapore to help boost trade among Asean countries.
“Last year’s Guangdong Products Show garnered support from the Thai public and private sectors and it was a satisfying success, with 128 exhibitors from China and more than 10,000 visitors from businesses and the general public attending the show. This year we will give primary emphasis to activities to promote trade and business networking, particularly through seminars and business consultancy by experts. We expect more than 8,000 business visitors to the show this time.”
To be presented in the 5,000 square metre exhibition space are specially selected products from more than 150 renowned manufacturers guaranteed by the government of China in order to strengthen Guangdong’s image as the province of quality products, modernity and luxury brands. The products will represent Guangdong’s five major industries, which are consumer electronics and information technology, furniture and home decoration, lamps and lighting, toys, and automotive components and accessories.
The exhibition will incorporate useful activities such as business talks with leading companies and seminars hosted by the DOFTEC on the Guangdong business practice and culture, and the introduction to world-class furniture from Dongguan. There will also be activities from Kasikorn Bank and a special clinic will be held to provide advice for Thai entrepreneurs who wish to do business with Guangdong.
Mrs. Supawan Teerarat, Exhibition Director of Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), said “China market is one of ASEAN plus 6 target group countries for Thailand’s Trade Shows industry. The oversea visitors from China to Trade Shows in Thailand is ranked number 6, however, China market is ranked number 2 after India for MICE visitors, which we expect the annual growth rate is at 15 to 20 per cent. In 2010, there were more than 45,000 MICE visitors from China, which generated revenue of more than 2.8 billion baht for Thailand.
TCEB has launched marketing campaign, Believe in Thailand - TCEB’s worldwide campaign, aimed to strengthen Thailand’s image as Asia’s preferred MICE destination, it is centred on the four distinct advantages that Thailand can offers. They are countless business opportunities, superb MICE infrastructure, professional service and a myriad of destinations. The campaign also aims to further support and build up profile of “Bangkok… the Exhibition City of ASEAN." TCEB has supported Guangdong Product Show for 2 consecutive years with various of marketing activities like The “Extra Night, Extra Smile” which aim at increasing the number of exhibition visitors by offering a complimentary one night stay for delegates who stay two consecutive nights or longer plus special VIP Fast Track at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport, whereas, Be My Guest program is to give two free room nights for potential buyers. We also extend more opportunities for overseas marketing promotion and networking opportunities in the target countries. We expect that trade volume generated from this show as well as the spending from oversea visitors will create economic impact to Thailand. We also hope that Guangdong Product Show 2011, organized by Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of Guangdong Province, will help stimulate mutual trade and benefit the business operators for both countries”.
The exhibition’s supporters include Kasikorn Bank, whose policies have continued to facilitate Thai-Chinese business operations. It has opened Thailand’s first one-stop Chinese-Thai Business Center and organised seminars that provided useful information about the economy, business conditions and culture for Thai and Chinese entrepreneurs.
