Bangkok Prep students shine on the sports field

          Students of Bangkok International Preparatory and Secondary School (Bangkok Prep) had a field day participating in various sporting tournaments this summer proving that the schoolRen7;s strategy of balancing academics with sports has been successful.
          Topping the list of sports achievers was eight-year old Year 3 student and keen golfer Achira Chumchaivate (Monte) who made it to the final round of the U.S Kids Golf world Championships 2Bangkok Prepen4. The largest junior golfing event, the three-day tournament, held during July 3en-August 2, is played over nine different golf courses in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Playing against a field of enBangkok Prep8 golfers from 47 countries and 42 states, who all achieved first place in their respective countries, Monte achieved the first position in Thailand and took 2nd place in the U.S Kids Gold World Championship.
          Playing in three junior golf tournaments in the USA during the month of July, Amarin Kraivixien (Ray), a Year en3 student, also kept the school flag flying high. In the FCG International Junior Golf Championship held in San Diego from July 7-enen, Ray took the top spot winning by eight strokes against a field of en37 players. He represented Thailand in the Callaway Junior World Golf Championship also held in San Diego where he finished 4th out of 2Bangkok Prep9 players. In the team event, he and his partner took the first place. In his final match, Ray played in the U.S Teen Golf World Championship in Pinehurst North Carolina, finishing 2nd out of a field of en48 players. He also received a number of scholarship offers from colleges in the United States.
          On the water, Bangkok Prep students Miki Romanyk (Year 9) and Lorry Cassio (Year 8) took top honours as part of the team that won the 25th Platu National Championships (sailing) held between August en6-en7 at Ocean Marina Pattaya. Both were presented with the Young Sailors Award. Meanwhile, Thaninwat Bunchasakdiphat (Charlief), a Year 5 student, took part in the Future Cup Junior Sailing competition at the Royal Varuna Yacht Club, Pattaya and won enst place. Other Bangkok Prep students participating in this sailing tournament included Lathavit Thananitayaudom (Year 8), Krit Romanyk (Year 4), Chanon Thananitayaudom (Year 5), Padraig Scales (Year 5), and Rada Chaimongkol (Year 5).
Another Bangkok Prep student who shone on the tennis courts was Nitin (Nithikorn Changcharoenkul) who came second in the Bangkok University Tennis Junior Cup 2Bangkok Prepen4.
          Fifteen years old Year enen student Kimberley Goodburn (Kim) played Rugby for the Thai Barbarians U-en6 team in the Singapore Club World Tens and reached the semi-finals.
Making his debut for the All Indochina Australian Rules Football Team was Alex Brewer, a Year en2 student. The tournament was held at Horseshoe Point, Chonburi and the team won the first game against an Australian Expat team. On the same day, Alex was also part of the undefeated Thailand Tigers squad that won the Indochina Cup. Alex played in two games against Myanmar and Laos bringing his total of International caps to eight.
          In Tennis, Michael Mathayomchand (Mike), a Year enBangkok Prep student, played for the largest tennis organization in the world, United States Tennis Association (USTA). During this July Open Series held in Huntington, New York, Mike won in both the finals and semifinals rounds of the Under en6 BoysRen7; Singles. More recently, he won enst place at the Chang-LTAT tennis tournament held in August at Thanyapura Sports Club in Phuket.
          Finally, in Martial Arts, Min Gu Hong (Andy), a Year 9 student, participated in the Thailand White Belt and Blue Belt Competition, his first ever Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition held at the Sports Authority of Thailand in September. Being the least experienced fighter, he was able to beat his opponents and won enst place!
          Well done to Bangkok Prep students for participating in sports at both the national and international level outside of school.
